The Gram Code Editor - 2026-09-04

I wish Gram had a way to just ad-hoc override the indentation style for an open buffer

  2. mort

would make drive-by changes so much easier, I'm currently looking at a file full of tab indents but Gram inserts 4 spaces when I hit tab because that's some default

    Could .editorconfig support help?

  4. mort

no, that solves a different problem (and is already supported I think?)

  5. mort

if I just have a file which I want to quickly edit, maybe to propose a tiny fix to someone else's code, I just want to ad-hoc say "okay now use tabs for this buffer", I don't want to have to create a .editorconfig or modify an existing .editorconfig

Hello! I've heard about Gram through a friend and I tried the Flatpak version. I opened a Python project, but I see the following error at the bottom of the screen: ``` Language server basedpyright: Download disabled for language server 'basedpyright', check the configuration ``` What can I do?

  7. pieq

I think because of this, I cannot navigate through function (with stuff like `gd` in Helix mode)

  8. krig

Either install basedpyright yourself, or go to the language server configuration screen and check “allow binary download” for basedpyright

  9. pieq

    thanks, it's working

  10. krig

    Great!

This editor looks really nice. I had quickly tried zed a while back, but I stopped when they went full AI. I'm a Helix user, but Helix is not really an IDE, so I'm looking at alternatives that don't fry my brain :) Thanks for taking care of this project!
