The Gram Code Editor - 2026-09-15

nice! I was making a gram ebuild starting off the zed ebuild, luckily I had an instant of sanity and checked the repository :P. This bumped my willingness to move from zed to gram 100 fold already. How do we deal with zed-extensions?

  2. frafav

ok, it was easy, I just pasted the url for a zed extension I wanted to install, and it just worked!

  3. krig

Great! Yeah it should work well for most extensions. Language extensions require rust to compile

  4. frafav

yes, it was a lsp extension I made for a tool I'm making. It works great! it's so strange not having all that activity going on on the right of the editor :P

  5. krig

haha, fantastic. Yeah I wonder what will happen to zed now that they have pivoted to delta

  6. frafav

I'm not against using ai for coding, it's fantastic. But it's not the way to go in my opinion. it makes you loose control of your code so easily. sure you get things done, but not in the way I'd do it :P

I mean I think that’s a real problem with it. I can see it in the zed code base. It’s out of control in so many ways. To me it’s like saying cocaine is great for exercising. Yeah you take some coke and you can work out non stop for 10 hours, amazing. Long term though that’s going to end badly :D But I have other issues with AI too. I don’t want to rent my coding ability from some corporation. I’d rather be slower but own my own ability

the cocaine analogy is nice in that the consequences of its trade are… not pretty (ofc it's related to ridiculous "war on drugs" stuff, I'll stop the LLM here as I don't want to advocate less regulation for tech ^^)
