Hi, I'm on Linux Mint 23.2, with version 25.2.8 of the Ubuntu package mesa-vulkan-drivers. Gram doesn't launch, complaining that 'max_compute_workgroups_per_dimension' value 65535 is better than allowed 0. The standard troubleshooting steps don't seem to cover this. What should I do?

For some reason the drivers don’t seem to match your GPU properly and it’s falling back to software rendering :/ What are your computer specs? You may need a special driver to get it working
-
krig
huh actually looking at what you pasted in the issue, it’s using the intel nullhw driver which is unusable for graphics: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Intel-Vulkan-Null-HW-Layer

krig
so something is messed up with your vulkan drivers for some reason
-
clayote
weird. Maybe Mint's driver manager will know what to do
-
clayote
nope.

I'm stuck with the old Intel i915 graphics chipset.

I disabled the Null HW layer

Same behavior from gram

unfortunately I think your GPU may be too old for wgpu support.. at least with the current configuration used in Gram

Well, there *is* a software rasterizer for Vulkan https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/vulkan-swrast/
-
clayote
Not sure what the relevant Ubuntu package would be
-
clayote
Wait, maybe that's what I'm already running? vulkaninfo says I'm using something called LLVMpipe https://docs.mesa3d.org/drivers/llvmpipe.html
-
krig
Yeah that's the software rasterizer, though I have gotten it to run with the software rasterizer before albeit unusably slow... and it should provide some minimum specs that should avoid getting that error message that you are getting.

Hi, anybody knows why Gram does not have any form of documentation for debian based distros on how to install it? Or did I simply miss it?

I found it. https://gram-editor.com/docs/linux/
