The Gram Code Editor - 2026-09-27

    Hello!

  2. GnarlyOtaku

Likewise here, I like grams stichk. Novice programmer and learning lisp to boot as my first language.

  3. Rob

Just tested Biome in Zed. There it works fine, but I can’t get it to work in Gram :(

  4. Rob

(If I get Biome to work I might be able to switch from VS Codium to Gram)

  5. krig

    I guess you've tried the instructions at https://gram-editor.com/docs/languages/biome/ ?

  6. krig

I haven't used it myself, it's possible something has broken..

  7. Rob

Yes, that’s what I tried, but Gram complains about failing to spawn a(n extremely long) command.

  8. Rob

Are there other (community) support channels besides this XMPP chat?

  9. krig

No, this and Codeberg are the only ones at the moment.. Maybe you can open an issue and attach the error you are getting there?

  10. koru

krig, why XMPP instead of IRC?

  11. Rob

IRC would indeed be nice! (Better clients)

  12. krig

I haven't used IRC in a long time.. this XMPP server is thanks to @nicoco :)

  13. Rob

If you would consider IRC, the Ergo server “with bleeding-edge IRCv3 support” is very nice! https://github.com/ergochat/ergo

  14. nicoco

    (sad xmpp noises)

  15. nicoco

Rob, https://www.bitlbee.org/ will let you join this room from any IRC client.

  16. nicoco

and I suggest https://gajim.org/download/ for a multiplatform client. this is all a matter of taste, I actually prefer XMPP clients to IRC clients, and I connect to IRC channels via biboumi (like bitlbee, but in the other direction). the good thing with biboumi is acts as a bouncer and makes any xmpp client an IRC client, with history support, mobile-friendly, etc. even the pre-IRCv3 ones :)

Hi all! I hope I'm not spamming or asking a stupid question. Is there currently a way to disable/replace Project Diff in the Git panel? The Project Diff view feels too cluttered and it's difficult for me to focus on the changes; I was looking for a per-file diff view if possible 😬

  18. krig

Hm, I'm not sure I understand what you mean.. You want a side panel with something like an outline of the changes in the current file?

  19. satinxs2

Right, for context I come from VSCode; I'm looking for a similar diff viewer, where you select the file and you see the diff _only_ for that file. Currently, as I understand, the diff shows you the "Project diff" view, right? Where it shows the buffer with diffs for _all_ changes. it's not that the current UI is cluttered btw, it's just that it's difficult to pay attention to a specific file's changes when I have ~20 or more files with changes for example

  20. satinxs2

    Does that make sense? 😁

  21. krig

Yeah, makes sense. We have a per file history view but I guess there isn't a way to get the staging diff for just one file in a view. But that would be nice to have and shouldn't be impossible to add I think.. Feel free to create a feature request, that way I won't forget it and maybe someone else might make it happen before I get to it :)

As an example, this is what vscode looks like: https://www.pasteboard.co/LO-dmwjyk696.png And this is what Gram looks like: https://www.pasteboard.co/RYvsNzdWcrUg.png I feel like the vscode one is easier for my self diagnosed ADHD dumb brain to read It might just be that I need to tweak the theme though, but I wanted to see if I wasn't missing something. I'm reading through the git-ui cargo module now, but Rust is definitely not my forte

  23. satinxs2

Thank you! I'll do that. I'll also try to implement it myself if I can, but again my Rust-fu is weak

  24. krig

Yeah makes sense! The screenshots help :) There is only the one view of all uncommitted changes right noww

  25. satinxs2

Codeberg is not letting me log in for now, but I'll create the feature request, thank you :)
